A stylish trattoria with an eye catching setting and atmosphere
40-41 Rathbone Pl, Fitzrovia, London W1T 1HX
A facade draped in greenery conspicuously set amongst the sparsely simulating street of Rathbone Place. You pass through the modern exterior and as you step down into the restaurant and turn to the right you are hit by the vast recess in this modern building. The tone amber tinge to the lighting sitting amongst the colourful trailing plants on the roof beams are striking.
This in conjunction with the stretches of walls covered in meticulously stacked spirit bottles and portraits give you the feeling that you stumbled across a secret city treasure. The terracotta styled tiled floors and the very art decor tables transport you away from London. The floor is vast and the combination of the busy staff and the lively music gives the place a lively heartbeat. As you head to through the restaurant to the back another element reveals itself. This area sits adjacent to the frantic but almost ballet-like kitchen and a forestry view out towards rathbone square.
The Malfadine al turtufo was a silky and perfectly balanced truffle cheesy pasta dish. The espresso martini was one that leaned into the coffee element making it a perfect chilled accompaniment to the fluffy and crisp churros dressed in a luscious chocolate sauce. There is an understated yet theatrical theme set by Circolo making it a place that will fit most occasions, from a group catch up to a romantic dinner with a twist. Making Circolo a Place that needs to be visited.
The Alfred Guide Tip
Lunch is a better bet to get a good booking, however the dinner menu has a few gems that are worth a try.
