A cool, cosy yet modern styled tapas bar with a dash of Mexican influences.
15 Maiden Ln, Covent Garden, London WC2E 7NG
Maiden Lane is home to a lot of big and bold restaurants with instantly recognisable acclaim. However the real gem on this popular strip off the back of covent garden is a quaint, stylish and inventive tapas bar called Condesa. The exterior is played down with is black colour and low key gold window signage. Once you're in their world you immediately recognise an up in tempo of the rhythm. The staff move like bees in the summer actively going about their work. The kitchen is in full view with the chefs diligently at work preparing each small plate with care. Dishes come to you quickly and as a result feeds you into wanting more, which is the best thing. The range of specials are ones to loom pot for as they take the level on intrigue to
Another level. We had a range of dishes with all hitting the key flavour profiles. The pan con tomate was full bodied with a perfectly toasted bread for the lush spread of the grated tomato. The stand out dish was their pig cheek tacos and the tortilla. The tacos were delicately balanced with their combination of sauces and soft pulled pork. I had the mezcal negroni and the rum manhattan. This twist on the negroni resulted in a complex yet very satisfying flavour profile. The rum manhattan was smooth with warm vanilla notes with a hint of bitterness from the dry vermouth. The olive garnish accompanied this surprise resulting in what was an overall interesting twist.
The Alfred Guide Tip
An ideal place for a catchup dinner with a small group of friends or a lovely setting for a date both inside and outside. Keep an eye out for their specials as they are inviting.
